Our history

Creativity meets entrepreneurship

Iben Restorff got the idea for Creative Space with the desire to create Denmark's first creative café, like an open ceramics workshop, where people can come together to use their hands and be creative together. Inspired by her children, she believes that there is a need for a free space away from screens and the pace of everyday life.

Not many people believe in the idea, and in the start-up phase Iben does almost everything herself. With her creative and entrepreneurial approach, she opens the first store on Gl. Kongevej in 2011 with help from family and friends. The start-up is characterized by limited funds, hard work and a strong belief that the Danes will eventually embrace the concept.

Our history

one location, becomes four

It takes time to build something new, but Iben is determined throughout and convinced that the concept will succeed. After a few years, Creative Space really gets a foothold. The first store in Frederiksberg becomes a success, and new locations open in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense.

As times change, more and more people are starting to seek out screens, interruptions and a fast pace, and instead find peace in craftsmanship, creativity and immersion. Creative Space will be a place where people can slow down, be present and create with their hands. The family behind the business remains deeply involved in the daily operations to keep up with the increasing demand.

Generational change and future growth

In 2022, Kira, Iben's eldest daughter, will take over the company with her husband Karl. Although Kira grew up with a paintbrush in her hand and has been by her mother's side since Creative Space's first opening day, the takeover marks the beginning of a new phase for the company.

The focus is on professionalization, structure and scalability. With high demand and big ambitions, investments are being made in new technology and more streamlined workflows. Karl and Kira open new locations across the country, and Creative Space continues its development and growth.
